I forgot to turn off the furnace and we woke up to hot radiators. I didn't realize it was going to get that cold, but it's definitely not cold enough to have the heat on...so I turned it off!
Weather advisory about the smoke is still in place. One of the NYC airports had to stop all incoming flights because it is so hard to see in NYC. Some of the Broadway shows have gone dark and employers have sent workers home or told them to work from home.
And it looks like this may be something we have to deal with several times this summer.
Doctors are advising to exercise only early in the morning, especially for older folks and folks with health problems. (I finished three miles on the exercise bike already.) And masks are recommended when outside.
Are you reading anything? I have finished the Women's Murder Club series and the Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency Series. I was looking for a new series when I ran across some interesting reading lists.
There are many recommended books lists, like best sellers, classics, etc. I also found lists of books that everyone should read? Right now, though, many of the lists include books that seem to reflect the current cultural situation.
Interestingly, a couple fiction books are on several of these lists. They are George Orwells's 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' and Harper Lee's 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.
'Lord of the Flies' by William Golding, 'Catcher in the Rye' by JDSalinger, 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury and 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck are also on many of the lists. Most of these books are older but there are some newer books included like 'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood and 'Beloved' by Toni Morrison.
Have you read any of these books? How do you feel about them? I don't think they were written to make folks feel good. Many of them make the reader feel uncomfortable with the descriptions of situations and experiences. And even though the books are fiction, they challenge readers to look at the reality of life.
Not exactly light reading, but maybe books we should all read...
Talk with you tomorrow...
