I did make it to Utah and am enjoying visiting with the family out here. We went to the fireworks last night and had a good time. Not only did we see the town's fireworks, but there were at least five other private fireworks displays that equaled the town's display.
This past winter, there was a lot of snow as well as rain in the spring so rivers, creeks and reservoirs are full. We visited the Stillwater Dam and it was overflowing. Really beautiful and loud...
Supplies needed are very simple. Dowels or wooden skewers which I covered with tape so the fabric did not stick to the wood, strong stick glue, scissors, Diamond Glaze (and brush) or some other acrylic finisher, fabric, bead caps and tacky glue ...
Start rolling the fabric without glue. Once you have wound the fabric around the dowel at least once, add a layer of stick glue to the fabric before rolling...
Add plenty of stick glue to the end so the fabric sticks well. Remove from the dowel and let dry overnight. Then apply the Diamond Glaze or other acrylic finisher to the fabric bead and let dry. You may want to use two coats to get a shiny appearance. Add thick tacky glue to the ends and place the bead caps. Here's a close-up picture of a fabric bead...
Most folks have made paper beads with strips of paper cut in different shapes. I like to make both. Quite frankly, these are easy to make and the results can be spectacular. I am going to use these as dangles to my journals.
