Are you old enough to remember the morning talk shows aimed at homemakers? They were a respite for mothers who stayed at home taking care of their children.
They usually had a cooking segment, a decorating segment, a hobby/craft segment and a guest. I remember one guest, a woman, who talked about the importance of hobbies and/or crafts for folks. She also talked about the different types of crafters.
For instance, there are folks who find one hobby/craft they enjoy like quilting or model railroads and stick with it, improving their skills. Then there are those folks who enjoy different aspects of a particular type of craft like drawing and painting (watercolor, oils, pastels). Finally there are folks who enjoy all sorts of hobbies/crafts from fabric to paper to drawing...samplers.
Which type are you? I am a sampler. I love crafting with fabric as well as paper with a bit of clay thrown in. I enjoy drawing zentangles as well as making a quilt, making a junk journal as well as fashioning clay beads!
She also discussed the benefits of hobbies/crafts. Crafting improves your sense of well-being and self-confidence. It reduces stress and enhances your mental acuity, creativity, problem solving. And it's fun...or at least it should be!
If you are stressed out with your hobby or craft, give it a break. You may have not found the right one. Become a sampler and try out several different crafts. Check out books from the library either online or in-person. And don't spend a lot of money right away, find a kit if possible or google an inexpensive version.
The important thing is to consider pursuing a hobby or craft if you don't already and try out several to find the ones you enjoy.
That's it for now...
Talk with you tomorrow...
