September 12, 2023 Holiday Decoration & Journal Pages

'Rain, rain, go away.  Come again another day!'  Remember that from your childhood?  It would be nice for the rain to go away for a while.  It has rained most days this past week and it rained again this morning.

The garage that was flooded this past July has still not dried out enough to get in and clean.  There's an inch or more of mud on half of it.

And even though the forecast was for highs in the 70's and even the 60's it remains in the 80's.  I guess that's better than the 90's but add the high humidity and it is just plain uncomfortable.

Today is the day that the season of orange will become a reality...make that fall decorations.  I am ready for fall even though the trees and grass are still a lush green.

I was hoping for some fall color when I drive up to the Bennington, Vermont Museum to see the 'Dear Jane Quilt' and Grandma Moses paintings.  They are only keeping the 'Dear Jane Quilt' on display for a month instead of the normal three months.  I am wondering if it is in danger of disintegrating.  I plan on making that trip next week.

I decided to try one of the holiday decorations out of the 'Eco-Crafts for the Holidays' book.  This one is called The Felt Ball.  Supplies needed are felt, scissors, circle pattern, needle and embroidery thread.  Cut five circles out of felt.  I didn't have any felt but I had some brushed cotton and used two pieces to make one piece of felt...

Fold the each circle in half and then sew them altogether in the folded area.  It's not as hard as you think but next time I would use a yarn or embroidery thread the same color as the felt so those stitches can't be seen.  Once that's done, sew the unfolded parts of the circles together but do not sew a single circle together, sew one part of a circle to the same part of the next circle and this is what you get...

This was a trial to see if I like the decoration...I do but I will be using heavy, thick felt next.  And I was thinking that I could also use fabric with an adhesive interfacing. And I will pay more attention to my hand sewing.

I finished more pages in the small journal.  Here's a pocket with a journal card and a side tuck with a journal card.  I again used some of the clusters made several days ago...

Here's are two more pockets with journal tags.  The first set has a single journal card, the second set has a folded journal card...

And this last pocket has a notebook...

That's all for today...

Talk with you tomorrow...
